Aanvullende informatie

Pitcairn's entire civilian population has historically numbered under a hundred people — all of them descendants of the Bounty mutineers and their Tahitian companions who settled the island in 1790. The island has no independent mint and issues coins almost exclusively for the collector market, with no meaningful circulating currency of its own.

Fletcher Christian led the 1789 mutiny against William Bligh nine days out from Tahiti, eventually landing on Pitcairn with eight other mutineers in January 1790. He was almost certainly killed by Tahitian companions on the island within two years — the exact circumstances remain disputed.
