Beschrijving keerzijde A full-length allegorical female figure, dressed in a flowing yellow gown with a red mantle and a floral wreath crown, stands triumphantly while raising aloft the blue-and-yellow national flag of Ukraine on a tall staff with her right hand. In her lowered left hand she holds a laurel wreath. At her feet crouches a large eagle, and behind her stretches a panoramic cityscape rendered in silver relief. To the left, a rising sun emits radiating rays of light across a sky in which a jet aircraft is depicted in flight, all rendered in full polychrome color application. The Cyrillic legend 'УКРАЇНА МАЙБУТНЯ' ('Ukraine of the Future') arcs across the upper field.

Aanvullende informatie

Niue has a long-standing arrangement with private minting firms — principally the New Zealand Mint — to produce commemorative silver issues sold directly to collectors, with the Niue government receiving a licensing fee and the coins carrying legal tender status almost entirely on paper. This piece was struck in 2013, which places it at the very beginning of the Euromaidan protests; the demonstrations that began in November of that year would escalate into the removal of President Yanukovych and Russia's annexation of Crimea by early 2014. Commemorating an ongoing political crisis mid-event was an unusual editorial decision for a numismatic issue.
