Issued on the 75th anniversary of the Normandy landings, this coin was part of a broader RCM commemorative push that included coloured and non-coloured variants — the two KM references reflect exactly that split. Canada's stake in D-Day is often overshadowed by American coverage of the operation; roughly 14,000 Canadian troops landed on Juno Beach on June 6, 1944, suffering over 1,000 casualties by day's end. The 3rd Canadian Infantry Division penetrated further inland than any other Allied force that day.
