Part of a broader wave of Pacific island legal-tender silver issues produced for the collector market through European minting intermediaries — in this case almost certainly struck by a private European mint and licensed through the Solomon Islands' nominal issuing authority. Solomon Islands has no domestic mint and has routinely licensed its name to themed collector series since the 1970s, lending nominal sovereignty to issues that have no connection to the islands' economy or circulation.
