Beschrijving keerzijde The entire reverse field is occupied by a vivid full-color abstract geometric composition printed using Chromadepth 3D technology, designed to create an illusion of depth when viewed through ChromaDepth glasses. The design features a repeating pattern of concentric circles and nested squares rendered in bold primary and secondary colors — including red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple — set against a black background. Spherical accent elements of magenta and purple are interspersed throughout the composition, enhancing the three-dimensional optical effect. No inscriptions or legends appear on the reverse.

Aanvullende informatie

Niue's licensing arrangement with the New Zealand government allows it to issue legal tender coinage despite having no central bank and a population that has never meaningfully circulated its own coins. The "Chromadepth" series exploited a specific optical printing technology developed by American Paper Optics — a lenticular-style ink process that creates the illusion of three-dimensional depth when viewed through proprietary red-cyan glasses originally designed for NASA imaging work. The coins were produced by the New Zealand Mint on contract.

Collector fodder, essentially. But the print technology itself is the point of the object.
