Niue's licensing agreements with overseas mints have made it one of the more prolific issuers of commemorative silver in the Pacific region, its sovereignty functioning essentially as a minting franchise for collector markets in Europe and North America. This Dickens piece was released in the bicentennial year of his birth — 2012 — though Niue continued issuing related commemoratives through 2015 as demand held.
Dickens died in 1870 leaving The Mystery of Edwin Drood unfinished at chapter 23.
