Reverse description Central field features an oval medallion with an ornate Baroque-style relief frame, surmounted by a cartouche bearing an anchor emblem, enclosing a colorized portrait miniature of Catherine the Great after an 18th-century painting, depicting the Empress in a low-cut gown with elaborate lace and imperial regalia. Symmetrical acanthus-scroll ornaments flank the medallion at left and right. A Cyrillic inscription in the left field records the imperial decree of 2 September 1794 ordering construction of a commercial port on the Black Sea. The name ЕКАТЕРИНА II, rendered in Cyrillic and Latin characters, appears along the lower curved edge, with the engraver's initials SM in the field.
