| Reverse description | The aluminium bronze centre depicts two young raccoons clinging to the textured bark of a tree trunk, rendered in fine naturalistic detail by engraver Susan Taylor. The pair are shown in three-quarter view facing one another, their distinctive masked faces and dense fur captured with precise relief work. The nickel ring carries the country name 'CANADA' arcing across the upper field and the denomination '2 DOLLARS' divided across the lower field, with each word positioned to either side. |

| Additional information |
This piece was struck exclusively for inclusion in the Royal Canadian Mint's 2015 Baby Animals specimen set, one of several themed issues the RCM produced in the mid-2010s targeting collector families. Specimen finish on bimetallic coins presents particular technical challenges — the two-component construction requires separate finishing passes, and the contrast between the aluminium bronze plug and the nickel ring must be maintained without contamination between surfaces.
Never released for circulation. The entire mintage went directly into sealed sets.
