Obverse description Right-facing diademed and draped effigy of Queen Elizabeth II after the portrait by Ian Rank-Broadley, whose initials 'IRB' appear below the truncation of the neck. The legend 'ELIZABETH II' arcs along the left rim and 'NIUE' appears at the top of the field, while 'TWO DOLLARS' is inscribed vertically along the right rim. The date '2022' is struck in the lower exergue, and a beaded border encircles the entire design.

Reverse description A richly detailed commemorative scene marking the 80th anniversary of the 1942 Japanese attacks on Australia during World War II. The upper field depicts formations of Japanese aircraft, including a prominently rendered Mitsubishi A6M Zero in the foreground, with radiating sunburst lines behind them. The central field shows a composite of wartime scenes: a sinking or stricken vessel at left, the Sydney Harbour Bridge in the background, a military figure cradling a wounded comrade in the lower left, and a group of soldiers manning artillery equipment at lower right. An inset silver-toned medallion at upper left bears the inscription '80 YEARS' within a wreath. A ribbon banner in the lower centre bears the date '1942'. The principal legend 'AUSTRALIA UNDER ATTACK' arcs along the upper rim, and the names of the attacked locations — 'Darwin, Bathurst Island, Sydney, Broome, Wyndham, Horn Island, Katherine, Townsville, Port Hedland' — are inscribed along the left and right rims respectively.
