The Wiggles launched in 1991 as a TAFE early childhood education project by a group of Sydney musicians, none of whom initially anticipated a commercial future in children's entertainment. By the time this coin was issued, the group had become one of Australia's highest-earning entertainment exports, with Wags the Dog — one of four character costumes introduced in the mid-1990s — a fixture in live shows across North America and the UK.
The pad-printed colour application, rather than a coloured insert or enamel, keeps the coin within standard vending machine tolerances while achieving the visual effect.
