| Descrizione del dritto | The obverse features the sixth and final official effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Jody Clark, depicted in right-facing profile wearing the George IV State Diadem and a pearl drop earring, with a pearl necklace visible at the truncation. The portrait is rendered in fine detail with carefully modelled hair and jewellery. The legend 'ELIZABETH II' arcs along the upper left field, with 'AUSTRALIA' continuing along the upper right, separated by a raised dot. The date '2020' appears to the right of the effigy, and the denomination '2 DOLLARS' is inscribed along the lower field, flanked by two raised dots. Issued in anticipation of the Tokyo Olympics, which were ultimately postponed to 2021 after the International Olympic Committee and Japanese government delayed the Games due to the COVID-19 pandemic — the first Olympic postponement in peacetime history. The Royal Australian Mint's pad-printing technology, applied here to deposit the red coloring directly onto the coin surface, was developed domestically and allowed circulating commemoratives to carry color without the enamel inlays used by other mints.
