Additional information

Part of Perth Mint's ongoing Fauna series, this issue appeared during a period when the mint was aggressively expanding its bullion and collector programs to capture growing demand from Asian markets — particularly China and South Korea — where Australian silver wildlife releases had developed a dedicated secondary market. The spotted eagle ray, a coastal species found across northern Australian waters, had not previously featured in any major Australian numismatic program.

The .9999 fineness is worth noting for the series: earlier Fauna releases were struck in .999, and the purity upgrade was a direct response to collector pressure and competition from comparable Canadian and New Zealand issues.
