The Royal Australian Mint introduced coloured circulating commemoratives aggressively from the mid-2000s, but the plain (uncoloured) poppy $2 struck between 2012 and 2018 occupies an awkward position in that program — it was intended for general circulation rather than collector sets, which means surviving examples were actually handled, spent, and lost at normal rates. Finding one in genuinely uncirculated condition from a cash-register encounter is now a minor event.
