The Invictus Games were founded by Prince Harry in 2014, modeled on the American Warrior Games, as a competition specifically for wounded, injured, and sick armed forces personnel and veterans. Sydney hosted the fourth iteration in 2018 — the first time the Games came to the Southern Hemisphere — drawing over 500 competitors from 18 nations.
