Obverse description The fourth portrait effigy of Queen Elizabeth II faces right, wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara. The legend ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA 2011 arcs around the upper field, with the designer's initials IRB appearing below the truncation. The portrait was executed by Ian Rank-Broadley and is rendered in fine relief against a polished field.

Reverse description The reverse features a central depiction of the troopship HMAS Sydney III, rendered in profile and set against a cartographic background showing the continents of Asia and Australia. Battle honours are inscribed in the upper half of the coin surrounding the vessel. The commemorative legend 100 YEARS OF THE ROYAL AUSTRALIAN NAVY 1911 - 2011 arcs around the upper periphery, while the denomination 2 DOLLARS and the ship's name H.M.A.S. SYDNEY III appear along the lower edge.
