| Obverse description | The obverse features the right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II as designed by Dora de Pédery-Hunt, depicted wearing a diadem and pearl earrings, set within a central gold-plated circular field. The surrounding outer ring, in silver, bears the legend 'ELIZABETH II D·G· REGINA' arcing across the upper portion and the commemorative date range '1996–2021' along the lower arc. A small maple leaf device appears at the top of the outer ring, centered above the portrait. The bi-material composition, with the gold-plated inner core contrasting against the silver outer ring, evokes the distinctive toonie format. The coin commemorates the 25th anniversary of the Canadian two-dollar coin. |
