Additional information

The Bahamas gained full independence from Britain in July 1973, and this series was among the first coinage issued under the newly established Central Bank, which itself only came into existence that same year. The $2 denomination was an unusual choice — most Caribbean nations avoided it entirely — reflecting the Bahamian government's deliberate effort to build a distinctive national currency rather than shadow neighboring monetary conventions.
