Obverse description The complete coat of arms of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas occupies the central field, featuring a quartered shield bearing a British galleon in full sail above stylized waves in the lower half and a rising sun in the upper half, supported on the dexter side by a marlin and on the sinister side by a flamingo, both rendered in fine detail. A crest of a conch shell surmounted by a tropical palm branch crowns the shield. Below the shield, a scroll bears the national motto on two ribbons reading FORWARD TOGETHER and UPWARD ONWARD. The circular legend COMMONWEALTH OF THE BAHAMAS arcs along the upper periphery within a beaded border, and the date appears in the lower field beneath the arms.
