Niue has long operated as one of the more commercially aggressive issuers of legal-tender collector coinage, licensing pop culture properties since the early 2010s under agreements that funnel revenue to the island's government — whose entire population sits under 2,000 people. The 1966 Batmobile referenced here is the George Barris-designed vehicle built on a 1955 Lincoln Futura concept car chassis, which debuted on the ABC television series and became one of the most recognizable automotive designs of the 20th century.
Barris reportedly purchased the Futura from Ford for one dollar.
