Niue has operated as a licensed DC Comics issuer since the early 2010s, producing a steady stream of legal tender collector pieces under a revenue-sharing arrangement that funds a meaningful portion of the island's government income — the population hovers around 1,500 people. Batman: Three Jokers was a 2020 limited miniseries written by Geoff Johns, the story itself drawing on a single panel from the 2016 DC Universe: Rebirth one-shot that Johns had written years earlier.
