Reverse description The reverse, shaped in high relief to form a Mayan death mask, depicts a highly detailed skeletal visage with sunken eye sockets and exposed dentition, rendered in antiqued silver. The mask is surmounted by an elaborate ceremonial headdress featuring a large oval medallion centrepiece, flanked by volutes, floral ornaments, and radiating feathered plumes finished in gold gilding. Circular ear spools and intricately engraved jade-like cheek ornaments with Mayan glyphic patterning flank the face, while a broad gorget decorated with geometric motifs extends across the lower field, the entire composition exhibiting two-tone antiqued gold and silver finishing.
