Part of a Marvel licensing arrangement that has seen dozens of sovereign mints issue legal-tender collector pieces on behalf of small Pacific island nations, this coin exists because Niue — population under 2,000 — has long monetized its sovereignty through themed numismatic programs. The arrangement generates revenue without requiring Niue to strike or handle a single coin; the New Zealand Mint does the physical work.
The Green Goblin's first comic appearance was in The Amazing Spider-Man #14, August 1964.
