Niue has long served as a licensing vehicle for the New Zealand Mint's themed collector series, and this Blackbeard issue sits within a broader Pirates of the Caribbean-adjacent cottage industry that has little to do with the island's 1,600 residents. Edward Teach — "Blackbeard" — was killed in a naval skirmish off Ocracoke Island, North Carolina, in November 1718 by Lieutenant Robert Maynard's forces, reportedly sustaining five bullet wounds and some twenty sword cuts before falling.
The KM#6029 assignment places it within Krause's expanding modern commemorative appendix, where provenance is thin and secondary market premiums depend almost entirely on mintage caps set by the issuer.
