Ultra high relief silver strikes present a recurring technical problem: the dies wear faster, striking pressure must be carefully controlled, and achieving full detail across a deeply sculpted surface often requires multiple blows per planchet. Perth has refined this process over decades of proof production, and their .9999 fine silver — purer than the traditional .999 standard — flows into recessed areas with marginally better definition due to reduced alloy hardness.
Charles III's first official effigy for Australian coinage was sculpted by British artist Martin Jennings, whose portrait replaced the long-running Jody Clark design following the King's accession in September 2022.
