Opmerkingen

Zimbabwe's bond notes were introduced in November 2016 as a surrogate currency, officially pegged 1:1 to the US dollar despite the country having no meaningful foreign reserve backing to sustain that rate. The Reserve Bank framed them as an export incentive scheme — a fig leaf that satisfied almost no one. Within months of introduction, bond notes were trading at a discount on the parallel market, and by 2019 the fiction of parity had formally collapsed.

Fidelity Printers and Refiners, a Reserve Bank subsidiary, produced the notes domestically — an unusual arrangement driven by necessity after Zimbabwe's international creditworthiness made foreign printing contracts difficult to arrange.
