Reverse description The reverse depicts a scene inspired by medieval iconography of Saint Wenceslaus (Sv. Václav), patron saint of Bohemia. A crowned kneeling figure, rendered in period armour, is shown in a posture of reverence before a standing armed warrior who holds an ornate lance bearing a pennant charged with an eagle. The standing figure carries a sword at his side, and the composition is executed in fine relief within a beaded border. The inscription 'SV. VÁCLAV' is positioned in the upper left field.

Additional information

Niue's treaty relationship with New Zealand grants it the legal standing to issue coins that circulate as New Zealand legal tender — a technicality that has made the island one of the most prolific bullion and collector-coin issuers per capita on earth, despite a population under 2,000. Charles III Wenceslaus refers to Charles III of the House of Habsburg-Lorraine, Holy Roman Emperor, whose regnal name combined his baptismal name with that of the Bohemian patron saint.
