These fractional gold pieces issued under Niue's licensing arrangements exist entirely as bullion collectibles — Estonia has no connection to Niue's monetary system, and Charles III appears here simply because Niue remains a self-governing territory in free association with New Zealand. Estonia's own currency history is the more interesting backdrop: the kroon, restored after Soviet occupation ended in 1991, was eventually absorbed into the euro in 2011, making "Free Estonia" framing on a foreign-issued coin a quietly pointed anachronism.
