Barbados converted its currency series to polymer substrate in 2022, joining a wave of Caribbean nations moving away from cotton-linen paper — partly for durability in humid coastal climates, partly for the enhanced security profile that polymer windows and OVI inks provide. The Canadian Bank Note Company has printed Barbadian currency for decades, giving the series an unusual consistency of production across multiple substrate changes.
P#80 is early in the polymer run. Circulation wear on Caribbean polymer notes tends to manifest as creasing rather than soiling, which affects grading differently than paper equivalents.
