Obverse description The obverse is dominated by an intaglio portrait of Queen Elizabeth II in three-quarter view at right, set against a fine guilloche underprint in green and gold tones incorporating traditional Fijian tapa cloth geometric patterns. The upper centre bears the ornate "Fiji" title lettering interwoven with native design motifs, while the Fijian coat of arms appears at upper right alongside two traditionally dressed figures and the motto "Rerevaka na Kalou ka doka na Tui". At lower left, an intaglio vignette of a Mohar coin is present, and a decorative tanoa (kava bowl) key device appears at centre below the denomination inscription "TWO DOLLARS".

Comments

The P#109 series was Fiji's last pre-republican coinage-era paper issue before the 2013 constitutional reset that removed the Queen's image from all currency. De La Rue produced this run in London through both 2007 and 2011 printings, with the two dates distinguished primarily by subtle serial prefix changes rather than any redesign — making date attribution dependent on serial analysis rather than visual inspection.

The Narube/Whiteside signature combination places these firmly within Sitiveni Rabuka's post-coup institutional reconstruction period, when the Reserve Bank worked to restore external creditor confidence after the 2000 George Speight coup's economic fallout.
