Pick 42 belongs to the second series issued by the Central Bank of Barbados, which replaced the original 1973 notes after nearly two decades of circulation. The 1993 dating on this denomination reflects a signature update rather than a redesign — the underlying plate work carries over from earlier printings in the series.

Calvin Springer served as Governor of the Central Bank from 1990 to 1999, narrowing the window for this particular signature variant.
