正面描述 The obverse is set in a horizontal format with the bank title THE UNION BANK and MONTREAL in bold letterpress at centre, surrounded by manuscript text reading the promise to pay Two Dollars. Two large numeral '2' counters appear at left and right flanking the central text panel. A central vignette at upper centre shows a seated figure in a pastoral or harvest scene executed in fine intaglio engraving, while a secondary vignette at upper right depicts a standing female figure. The inscription LOWER CANADA appears across the top margin, with manuscript date and handwritten signatures of the Cashier and President at the foot of the note.

备注

The Union Bank of Montreal was chartered in 1865 — which makes a note attributed to it from 1838 an immediate red flag. No such institution existed under that name in Montreal in 1838. The reference number P#1987 does not correspond to a recognized Pick or Charlton catalog entry for any Canadian 1838 issue, and "Printed: Canada" is an unusually vague attribution for the period, when virtually all Canadian chartered bank notes were printed by American security printers such as Rawdon, Wright & Hatch or Toppan, Carpenter & Co.

The data as provided cannot be verified. This entry should be held pending source documentation.
