Obverse description Central field enclosed within a pointed hexafoil cartouche, the outer margin divided into six cloud-shaped lobes characteristic of Ilkhanid decorative convention. Multiple lines of Arabic inscription in bold relief occupy the interior of the hexafoil, presenting the ruler's name and titles in a stylized thuluth-influenced script. The lobed border creates a clear visual separation between the central legend area and the surrounding marginal field. The flan is irregular and slightly convex, consistent with hand-hammered production, with legends partially weak at the flan edges.

Additional information

Anushirwan Khan was the last Ilkhanid claimant propped up by the Chupanid amirs, a fiction of legitimacy maintained well after the Ilkhanate had functionally ceased to exist as a coherent state. By 1344, the Chupanids themselves were months from collapse, destroyed by the rival Jalayirids. This coin is essentially administrative archaeology — minted to assert a sovereignty that existed nowhere outside the die.
