The Chupanid amirs never held the Ilkhanid throne themselves — they ruled through a succession of puppet khans while the Ilkhanate was already dissolving around them. Sulayman, enthroned under Chupanid control around 1339, was the last figure propped up in this arrangement before the dynasty collapsed entirely. The "eye shape" designation refers to the flan form, a local striking convention that distinguishes these provincial issues from the broader Ilkhanid monetary output and points to a mint operating well outside central administrative oversight.
