The marginal legend, running between a plain inner circle and a dotted outer border, records the Hijri year of issue in words. The die-work is bold and characteristically vigorous for Ilkhanid hammered silver of the early fourteenth century, with the flan showing the irregular edges typical of the series. |

Abu Sa'id Bahadur Khan was the last Ilkhan to exercise real authority over the dynasty's territories, and the coinage of his reign reflects a state still functional but increasingly fractured along tribal lines. His accession in 1316 at roughly twelve years old meant the early years of this type were struck under the effective regency of the amir Choban. The monetary system he inherited was already under strain from decades of debasement under his predecessors.
Type G designations within Abu Sa'id's dirham series typically reflect regional mint variation rather than a single production center — the Ilkhanate operated mints across Iran, Iraq, and Anatolia simultaneously.
