Tajikistan's small-denomination diram coins have been largely ignored by circulation since the currency redenomination of 2000, which replaced the Soviet-era Tajikistani ruble at a rate of 1,000 to one. At that exchange rate, 2 diram represented such negligible purchasing power that these coins were functionally obsolete almost from reintroduction.
