| Reverse description | The reverse depicts the Brandenburg Gate rendered in fine detail at center, its six Doric columns and attic surmounted by the Quadriga visible above. Flanking the gate on both sides are sections of the Berlin Wall shown in a crumbling, fragmented state, symbolizing the historic fall of 1989. Radiating lines emanate from the base of the gate toward the lower rim, evoking a sense of liberation and light. The commemorative dates 1989 - 2009 are inscribed in the lower field, marking the twentieth anniversary of the fall of the Wall. |

| Additional information |
Andorra issued this piece in 2009 to mark the twentieth anniversary of the Wall's fall, part of a broader wave of European commemorative gold that flooded the market that year. What distinguishes the Andorran entry is the issuer itself: a co-principality without a central bank, whose coinage has historically been struck under contract rather than domestic monetary authority. The 2 Diners denomination existed almost entirely as a vehicle for collector issues of this kind.
