Yugoslavia's 2 Dinar coin of this period circulated through one of the more economically turbulent stretches in the country's postwar history — the 1970s brought chronic inflation, balance-of-payments crises, and the decentralizing reforms of the 1974 constitution, which redistributed federal economic authority to the eight constituent republics and autonomous provinces. By the early 1980s, inflation was accelerating toward triple digits, and coins of this denomination were effectively losing purchasing power faster than they could be spent.
