| Obverse description | Central field occupied by a multi-line Shahada inscription in angular Kufic-influenced Arabic script, reading the Islamic profession of faith. The central text panel is enclosed within a circular inner border, surrounded by a wide marginal legend band containing the names of the Twelve Imams of Twelver Shia Islam in cursive Naskh script. The outermost border is formed by a continuous beaded or pellet ring, characteristic of Ilkhanid hammered gold coinage. The overall layout reflects the Shia religious orientation adopted by Uljaytu Khan following his conversion, with the enumeration of the Imams serving as a distinctive doctrinal statement on the coin's design. |
