The circular legend DEUTSCHE DEMOKRATISCHE REPUBLIK is inscribed around the periphery in Latin characters.

Reverse description A large, bold numeral '2' dominates the central field, flanked symmetrically by two stylized oak branches, each bearing a single deeply-veined oak leaf rendered in outline style. The Berlin Mint mark 'A' is positioned at the top of the field above the numeral.
