Antoine I died in 1731, making this a late issue from his reign — struck within two years of his death and during a period when Monaco's relationship with France was being renegotiated under the terms of the 1725 Treaty of Peronne. Billon coinage of this type circulated alongside French issues in the Principality, and Antoine made no effort to differentiate his monetary output from the broader Provençal small-change economy. Gadoury MC82 is not a common find in collectible grades; the alloy's low silver content made these coins prone to surface corrosion, and most survivors show significant porosity.
