The Bosporan copper denominations of this period were heavily debased electrum coinage by this point in the kingdom's history — what the reference catalogs classify as "denarii" bear little relationship to Roman silver of the same name, functioning instead as a local fiduciary currency tied loosely to Roman monetary conventions.
