Additional information

Victor Amadeus II had become King of Sicily in 1713 under the Utrecht settlement, then was forced to swap Sicily for Sardinia in 1720 — a reluctant exchange brokered by the major powers that nonetheless left him a king. These small copper denari were struck during his Sardinian reign, when his treasury was reorganizing coinage across his territories to reflect the new political arrangement. The 2 Denari denomination sat at the very bottom of the monetary ladder, handling the smallest daily transactions in markets and parishes throughout Piedmont.
