Macedonia introduced brass- and copper-plated steel as a cost-reduction measure across its circulating coinage after the original bimetallic and bronze compositions became economically impractical for low-denomination production. The magnetic variant of the 2 Denari distinguishes this issue from the earlier non-magnetic KM#3, a distinction that matters more to the specialist than the average handler.
