This piece belongs to a commemorative series issued to mark the tenth anniversary of Macedonian independence, declared in September 1991 following a referendum in which over 95% voted to separate from Yugoslavia — notably the only republic to do so without armed conflict. The Faculty of Economics issue is one of several institutional subjects within that series, each authorized in limited numbers by the National Bank.
KM#12 in silver is the collector strike; a base-metal circulation version of the 2 Denari denomination exists separately in the standard series.
