Obverse description Central field dominated by an ornate intertwined ducal monogram of Gotthard Kettler, composed of the letters G and K in a elaborate Renaissance cipher, surmounted by a ducal crown. The date is split to either side of the monogram, with '15' at left and '78' (or '79') at right. The entire design is contained within a beaded border, with no surrounding legend, reflecting the small module and simple hammered style typical of Baltic billon coinage of the late 16th century.
