Beschrijving voorzijde Draped bust of King Adolf Fredrik facing right, with long flowing hair. A bold legend in Latin encircles the effigy along the rim, identifying the monarch by name and title. The portrait is rendered in a restrained Baroque style typical of mid-18th-century Swedish coinage. The field is smooth, with the bust positioned centrally and occupying the majority of the coin's face.

Aanvullende informatie

Adolf Fredrik's reign ended abruptly in February 1771 — he died at the dinner table, reportedly after consuming a meal of lobster, caviar, sauerkraut, and fourteen servings of semla. This 1770 issue was among the last struck under his authority, minted just months before his death transferred the throne to Gustav III, whose coup the following year would strip the Riksdag of the powers it had accumulated over the preceding half-century of parliamentary dominance known as the Age of Liberty.

The 2 Daler Silvermynt denomination was a product of Sweden's plate money legacy — an accounting fiction tying coin values to the old copper plate standard long after the plates themselves had left circulation.
