The "Year of Three Kings" designation refers to 1994, when Yahya Jammeh's military coup deposed Dawda Jawara after 24 years in power — but the Gambian commemorative market was slow to capitalize on it, and this issue appeared years later targeting collector markets rather than marking any immediate anniversary. Jammeh's AFPRC junta suspended the constitution and dissolved parliament within days of seizing power on July 22, 1994.
The .925 silver version, KM#65a, was struck alongside a base-metal counterpart, the distinction existing solely for international collector distribution.
