| Reverse description | The large numeral 2 occupies the centre of the field, rendered in bold outline style with double-line engraving. The date 1941 appears to the left of the numeral, flanked by two five-pointed stars positioned above. Flanking the lower portion of the numeral are two symmetrical olive or laurel branches. Brazil's monetary overhaul of the early 1940s saw the cruzeiro replace the réis after four centuries — a redenomination so extreme that one cruzeiro equaled one thousand réis. Trial strikes from 1941 document the testing phase before the new coinage entered full production in 1942. Very few pattern pieces from this transitional exercise are known to survive outside institutional collections.
