| Obverse description | The national arms of Brazil occupying the central field, comprising a five-pointed star charged with the Southern Cross constellation within an armillary sphere, the whole encircled by a ring of twenty smaller stars representing the states of the federation, flanked symmetrically by branches of coffee and tobacco. The circular legend reading REPUBLICA DOS ESTADOS UNIDOS DO BRASIL is inscribed along the upper periphery, with a secondary legend ESTADOS UNIDOS DO BRASIL and the date 15 de Novembro de 1889 commemorating the proclamation of the Republic appearing in the lower field. |
