Obverse description Crowned royal coat of arms of Portugal occupying the central field, with the mint mark 'LB' (Lisboa) to the left and the denomination indicator 'II' (denoting 2 Cruzados) to the right. The shield displays the characteristic Portuguese quintas arrangement. The surrounding legend reads PHILIPVS D G REX PORTVGALIA ET A L - II B in Latin characters, identifying the issuer as Philip III of Portugal by the grace of God, King of Portugal and the Algarve. The entire design is executed in the hammered style typical of Iberian gold coinage of the early seventeenth century, with an irregular flan and uneven strike consistent with the period.
